Inspiration:
The Sanlin Hive represents the 1950s façade of the Sanlin Building located at 426 Canal Street, New Orleans, LA.
In this scene the Sanlin, with its honeycomb-like façade, has been taken over by the honey bees that occupy the home of the artist--they return every eighteen months.
As can be seen, the abstract bees have eaten away much of the Sanlin's golden yellow rectangles, transforming them into organic shapes free of right angles.
The bees take the manmade structure for their own, reclaiming nature with creative intent. This is a companion piece to Pennies from Heaven.
